What should we think about Pope Leo XIV? This is a key question that has no doubt been on your minds since May 8. Although impressed by Leo XIV’s full life spent in the service of the Church, we are invincibly gripped by anguish: born in 1955, he is necessarily a victim of the break with Tradition that Father de Nantes so dreaded, the break that the Second Vatican Council provoked within the Church herself. The Virgin Mary wove Her Son’s tunic in one piece after ‘weaving’ Him into Her virginal womb. At the Council of Ephesus, She prevailed against the heresy of Nestorius when the people acclaimed the Theotokos. Yet, She did not triumph without the Pope! For he is the voice of the Church.
